Neal Barab

About

He is passionate about stone, in all its colors, and textural possibilities. For years he has been working with groupings of different kinds of stones, placed within the same composition. Particularly interesting is his work with architects and garden designers, creating unified artworks combining nature, architecture and sculpture.
Since 1987 he has lived and worked in Pietrasanta, Italy, widely know as a sculptor’s paradise. Not only is the pure white Carrara marble readily available, but he has access to nearly every marble and granite from anywhere in the world. He uses green, blue, red, black, and yellow marble, from China, Brazil, France, Spain and Portugal. Most summers he's spent in Sweden, working with granite and the extra hard Black Diabase and Quartzite.

Biography / CV

I'm passionate about stone, in all its colors, and textural possibilities. For years I've been working with groupings of different kinds of stones, placed within the same composition. Particularly interesting is my work with architects and garden designers, creating unified artworks combining nature, architecture and sculpture.
Since 1987 I’ve lived and worked in Pietrasanta, Italy, widely know as a sculptor’s paradise. Not only is the pure white Carrara marble readily available, but I have access to nearly every marble and granite from anywhere in the world. I use green, blue, red, black, and yellow marble, from China, Brazil, France, Spain and Portugal. Most summers I’ve spent in Sweden, working with granite and the extra hard Black Diabase and Quartzite.

The various colors, textures, forms of my artworks can be combined and refined to fit any kind of natural and architectural environment.
